The Tibetans have experienced yet another blow to the exiled community as the Swiss leadership has rejected the asylum applications of 300 Tibetans and decided that they need to leave the country. This famously neutral European nation’s turnaround on Tibet has taken many observers by surprise. Even the original article on Phayul.com that announced this news (see below) states that Switzerland has “a healthy record in providing asylum to Tibetan refugees”. So what changed the Swiss leadership’s mind? These are the salient points important for everyone to remember:

  1. Switzerland first announced in February 2017 that they view Tibetans as Chinese citizens. This followed an incident whereby a Tibetan woman, Yangdon Chorasherpa, was deported from Switzerland back to Nepal after she was found to be living in the country seeking asylum with Nepali documentation. First of all, it is illogical how a person can be a refugee and a citizen at the same time. Yangdon is clearly Tibetan and not Nepali, and it is obvious that she gained her Nepali documentation illegally. In doing so, Yangdon broke not just one but two sets of laws. She broke Nepali law for carrying fake documents, and Swiss law for entering the country and seeking asylum under false pretenses, using illegally-obtained documents. So while it is a sad affair that she is currently in prison, it is hardly Switzerland’s fault for her predicament. It is therefore not logical for the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA; Tibetan leadership) and their supporters blame this deportation on Switzerland being pro-China. Blaming the Swiss in this way is overly simplistic. Who actually bears the responsibility for this episode, the Swiss who were only enforcing their pre-existing laws against illegal migrants? Or the Tibetan leadership who failed in their duties to provide legitimate travel papers for their community and drove them to such desperate measures?
  2. It is time for the Tibetans to stop judging the whole world through the lens of what is pro- or anti-China. The Swiss rejection of asylum seekers has been decried by the Tibetans as a pro-China policy. But why does it have to be a pro-China policy? Why can it not be pro-Swiss, and viewed as the Swiss government taking steps to protect their Swiss citizens’ interests, and prevent them from further exploitation by the Tibetan leadership? The fact is that the Swiss, and indeed the world, do not owe anything to the Tibetans. Switzerland has every right to their own laws and policies, and they also have every right to determine who they wish to allow in to Switzerland and who they reject.
  3. The Tibetan leadership always insists that external parties have no right to comment on their policies because they are not Tibetan. Similarly, the Tibetans therefore should have no right to comment on Swiss policies. Whatever policy the Swiss decides upon for their country is none of the Tibetan leadership’s business; the Swiss leadership are not accountable to anyone except for their Swiss citizens and do not have to answer to anyone. Again, the Swiss leadership and the rest of the world owes nothing to the Tibetan leadership, who have received billions in financial help and support for 60 years and now, without basis, feel entitled to it. What right do the Tibetan leadership have to demand anything from anyone, when they have contributed very little to their adopted countries? What has the Tibetan leadership done for or contributed to the world to deserve the amount of help they have received?
  4. From the side of the Tibetan leadership, it appears not much has been done to stave off this change of Swiss policy. While Lobsang Sangay focuses his efforts raising funds in North America, his people continue to be rejected all over the world. If he has to travel, why is he not spending more time in Switzerland to try and change the leadership’s attitude and policies towards Tibetan refugees? Are dollars for his wallet more important than the welfare of his people?

The message from the CTA is clear – if you are in trouble, the CTA can and will do nothing to help, and they will leave their people to suffer. And not only are they are unable to provide travel documentation for them, they will even sabotage their people who try to get legitimate papers. And so now this has taken place with Switzerland, what is the next step? The CTA’s plans for Tibetans who are going to be deported or denied entry into Switzerland have not been made clear. Yet again they are silent when their people need them the most, and when their international standing has taken a nosedive.

For too long the CTA’s silence has led to the Tibetan people’s suffering. Their silence over self-immolations have led to more Tibetans senselessly killing themselves; their silence over the Dorje Shugden issue has encouraged Tibetans to violently discriminate against Shugden practitioners for over 20 years. Similarly, their silence over the Karmapa issue has seen the perpetuation of a disturbing split in the Karma Kagyu tradition, while they have remained silent over the Jonangpas’ push for equal representation in the parliament.

Yet, the Tibetan Prime Minister Lobsang Sangay will be very vocal and visible when funds are involved. That is something the Tibetan public and their supporters need to be wary of. The CTA are vocal when it impacts their financial bottom-line, but nowhere to be seen when it concerns their people’s physical wellbeing and the world’s relationship with them. So are the Tibetan leadership acting in their people’s best interests or their own? It is becoming increasingly clear what it is that the CTA values and sad to say, it will always be money and never will be the welfare, wellbeing and future of their people.

I hope forward thinking, Tibetans please start to wake up. the CTA has lead you into a dead end, they are not benefitting anybody apart from themselves.

Hoping for compassion from the world community, is kind of hard these days, especially when we do not do much to offer the world. If one checks out the history of Tibetans in exile, one can draw the conclusion that since the Dorje Shugden ban, it has been nothing but down hill for the CTA and tibetans in general.

Switzerland is a ‘neutral’ country it managed to stay out of World War 2 also, can you imagine that, yet the Swiss courage of neutrality failed them and even under no threat of war, the Swiss capitulated.

CTA and Tibetans in exile has tried many things, most of the them negative, but one thing they have not is to make peace with Dorje Shugden people and restore harmony. In spirituality, nothing is as damaging as broken harmony. That is one thing they have not tried before, to restore the harmony amongst Gelugs, and restore Dorje Shugden practice to the Sakyas etc. Restore harmony between the Gelug lamas with his Holiness the Dalai Lama. Such negative occurrences cannot happen without karma involved, if Tibetans do not make the right moves I fear it will be the end of CTA as we know it.

This is such a sad state of affairs and a great shame on the part of CTA who does not care for the well being of its fellow Tibetans. Instead of creating harmony and a close knitted Tibetan community, all CTA can do is dispersing Tibetans like ants all over the world, create a great divide and disunity among them.

CTA should gather and reunite every Tibetan now to create harmony. Discard the religious card game that divide the people. Lift the ban on Dorje Shugden practice and the uphill challenge of uniting the people can be won for a greater focus to the settlement of Tibetans returning to the homeland so that Tibetans do not need to be forever refugees and stateless. They can return to their homeland and enjoy the full status of a citizen.

My heart goes to Ms Yangdon Chorasherpa who is now critically ill in jail. OM BENZA WIKI BITANA SOHA…..may you be well and free.

Yet another proof of the inefficiency of the CTA who instead of making sure that the Tibetan people are safe, provides the causes for them to go to jail.

The many years of kindness towards the Tibetans seem now as being exhausted but obviously, the Tibetan Government in Exile does not seem to want progress. They should make everything to get back ‘home’ even if this means that it is in Tibet, China. What else is there to do? Running the world and expecting others to take care of them?

The end of the line has been reached and there has to be a decision either in Tibet, China or becoming a citizen of India for example.

Tibetans have lost their safe haven Switzerland ! It’s sad for the 300 Tibetans who will be deported. The fact that the Swiss government is considering to bear the deportation travel expenses plus monetary assistance of 5000 Swiss Francs for every victim is a show of kind firmness; this makes it hard for others to argue that they are unkind over this decision. This move is definitely in line with their decision in July 2016 to recognise Tibetans as Chinese nationals and not as “stateless” nationals. Hence, Tibetans are technically Chinese. If they wish to enter Switzerland they will have to abide by the following immigration rules

If the Tibetans have not received a valid visa they are not allowed to stay in Switzerland. There’s is no more avenue to use a refugee/stateless status to apply for stay in Switzerland. If anyone breaks this immigration rule they will be punished. The Tibetan lady Yangdon who is still in jail for violating immigration rules in Switzerland should serve as a good example. Hopefully the CTA will be able to plead for her release. Her life is at risk if she continues to live in the jail with her severe illness.

Bottom line – Tibetans and their government cannot “fight” with China anymore, at least not using the same tactics they have been using the last 60 years. It’s not working. It’s in fact detrimental to the welfare of Tibetans to continue the same battle. The government CTA must come up with better methods to help its own people !!

The Tibetan government should make this clear to its people. If they can help to change the Swiss’s decision on this matter would be a great help to its people. if they fail to do so then they have to educate their people not to break the immigration laws. Otherwise they will risk being punished.

Tibetans must feel so insecure. To not have any proper documentations since their exile must be unsettling, and their so called government have not done much to even provide their people that security. They must’ve known that this would happen in time, and instead of doing something for their people, the CTA has let this happen, and the result, their own people to suffer. They could’ve done so many things to provide much more security for its people like work hard and strike a deal with their host countries to give some sort of citizenship or any secured documentations for their people so they don’t need to turn to illegal activities such as Yangdon did. But instead of having long term interests in the welfare of its people who needs them most, they just kicked back, relaxed and enjoyed the years of financial aid they have received without much result. I feel worried for Tibetans, who only have temporary places for residence. What is next for them? Who do they have to rely on to ensure their welfare?

So many blunders by the CTA, so many Tibetans are suffering. Tibetans in exile are committing serious wrong doings to themselves by forging illegal documents, suicide by self immolation.

Yet what course of action do they have except, the above out of sheer frustration and desperation.

What is most impactful in this article by Kay Beswick is the fact that CTA instead of looking into and solving the problems their people are suffering from, they actually blame the world for being pro Chinese.

Has it occurred to CTA that the world who have contributed to their existence the last 60 years are seeing the truth behind CTA’s victim story over China.

As China stands on the world stage fast becoming more and more respected, what has CTA done to appease and make peace with China.

The question that arises in my mind is, making peace with China will not serve the leaders of CTA. Because in any amicable arrangement with China, CTA will lose all their validity of asking for funds to line their pockets.

As like Dorje Shugden practitioners, it is time for the Tibetans to put the truth in the open and see if CTA will try to help them out. After all they are voted into authority by democratic method.

Tibetans should do something for themselves legally, that is to vote for new leaders who truly cares.

I think the Tibetan should thanks to the China Government. Due to the China government, the countries that projected wanted to be the “enemy” will always support the Tibetan in exile. Thus, amongst the refugees in the world, Tibetans have known to get the best support on compare to other refugees like Rohingya.

It is very obvious when certain countries no longer support the Tibetan in exile, the Tibetan would stood by and scold the countries as if the country owe the Tibetan refugees and the country do not have rights to do so. It is not fair for the countries. The countries have own citizen to be taken care of.

For Tibetan own leadership, as what said in this article, what have Mr. Lobsang done when their refugees being jailed in Swiss? Did he even do anything to show concern?

The CTA have long using their people to attract donations. How long this situation could fool the international ?

It is very simple because the CTA and the current pretentious Sikyong is never about the Tibetan people. Tibetan people are just being USED for their campaign to solicit funds for their own personal pockets and to control the people. It is their way of maintaining their wealth and ensuring that no one takes away their power. However, time is changing and people are speaking up.

Tibetans are getting tired with all the lies being told to them and being made to feel guilty if we wanted to get citizenship. Why is that? We already have nowhere to go, why must can’t we adopt another country? It is as if we have no freedom whether we are living in exile under the CTA or whether we living in Tibet under PRC. What is the difference? At least with PRC we still get to practise Dorje Shugden and no one is going to ostracize them because of their religion. At least that much they have and are able to practise freely.

Switzerland’s rejection of 300 Tibetans over their request for asylum should not surprise. In February of this year, Switzerland had already announced that it viewed Tibetans as Chinese citizens. This is a logical consequence of Switzerland adopting the political stance of recognizing Tibet as part of China.

To criticize Switzerland for being pro -China is unfair . Switzerland is merely exercising its rightful power to protect its citizens from illegal immigrants.Instead , Tibetans experiencing this rejection should look into the real nature and source of their problem and plight. Their plight is the result of the Tibetan leadership not helping them to ensure that their documentation had been done following correct procedure; but their real plight is that they are stateless in the first place.India, their country of exile, has offered them citizenship, but the Tibetan leadership, for selfish reasons of their own, has refused to help their countrymen obtain Indian citizenship. Instead it has discouraged them by intimidating threats from becoming Indian citizens. What is to become of these poor stateless Tibetans in exile?

It’s sad for Tibetan refugees to have difficulties to travel but even more sad if one not able to see the real reason behind this sad situation. To blame Switzerland that deported or will be deporting by any government, is either one is so ignorant about law and rules. Or one is double standard when talking about respecting a country’s internal affairs and rights to protect their country and citizens.

It’s time for Tibetans to wake up, wake up to the fact that CTA is caring for their own ruling ite’s welfare and pocket, not the Tibetans’ wellbeings and lives. There will be more and more incidents breaking Tibetans’ heart if Tibetans are still place all their hopes on CTA, trust whatever CTA is propaganding without questioning and follow blindly. It’s still not too late to push Tibetan leaders to be more accountable and transparent in their policies…A leader’s power to rule is actually deriving from the PEOPLE.

A “government” that have “ruled” their “country” for more than 50 years but still couldn’t get the nation back? CTA is really ridiculous and in fact they can still have a parliament now is a blessing from the sky.

For me, it’s pointless when a “government” is creating so much separation among the community, and ignoring so many problems that they could solve it by giving firm and fair statements. What is the point to have a “government” that not working for its people but to only get money for political use?

The Tibetan are sufferings, they are not getting a good home and deported by countries. What I see is the CTA instead spending a lot of money and energy to create books, videos, campaign to against Dorje Shugden practitioners for 20 years. Where is the welfare of the people? Isn’t a well being of a Tibetan is more important than they practise Dorje Shugden or not?

I hope this rejection from Switzerland rings a wake up call to the money minded CTA, please take care of your people first!

Sad to see the Tibetan has come to such situation but not to blame Swiss officials on their ruling but the Tibetan leaders that after 60 years in exile didn’t protect their people’s welfare. Come to this point the only consistency we see from CTA is never stop looking for funding using the people. Instead of fighting for the benefit of the Tibetan but CTA only fight for money for themselves.

Tibetan really has to wake up and see the clear picture of their leaders. They must realise that they are being USED. Why the leaders can become citizen of other foreign country and not be Tibetan same as their people? CTA has collected billions from funding and what has they done to improve the Tibetan welfare? Why CTA keep discriminating differences in spirituality and create separation and violent towards their people instead of respecting the differences and encourage harmony in living together? What effort has CTA taken to the world leaders to make Tibetan refugees in other countries to live in peace? It’s been a long 60 years and how long more Tibetans have to wait and now we can see that other countries can no longer let CTA take advantage on them just like how they did it to their people.

CTA only knows how to blame others that doesn’t help them and accuse them as pro-China but never find a way to make good relationship with other countries to protect their people. Do you think the world bothered with CTA claim them as pro-China?

Deeply sympathise to the Tibetan but unfortunately the lie and false hope that CTA gave to the people have to be stopped. Switzerland will not be the only country that take such step. Time no longer on CTA anymore.

This has been coming really, I feel. The failures of CTA doing what they preach. The growing unrest within the Tibetan camp, why nothing solid and concrete has been done in the past to help their cause. I see this as a lose confidence & “fed up” reaction from Switzerland authority, they don’t see CTA as really a worthy cause to help anymore (anyways they are not helping themselves) and their cause is heading nowhere. What Switzerland did is just merely following examples of the rest of the world, acknowledging CTA as a failure and chasing lost causes, while China made headway developing the now peaceful Tibet as one of the main economic generator for Chinese Government.

This again proven that CTA will never help their people when they are in need, CTA is will only show face when there are donations, but when problem arise, when their people are suffering, CTA / Lobsang Sangye will never say a word or do anything about it, because it doesn’t help them in gaining more money or power.

Switzerland taking these actions is because they want to protect their citizen’s safety and to make sure everyone in the country live according to their law, means they are taking action to make sure their people are safe and to protect them, it is not about Pro or not Pro China. This claim is very baseless and naïve.

Moreover, even if Switzerland is really Pro-China, what can the CTA do? Most of the countries are now going near China as it will help their country and people in many ways, so why not CTA do so for the sake of their people’s benefit instead of creating more hate and suffering within the Tibetan community?

Dear Tibetans, whenever something happens, where is your so called great CTA?

Before this, nothing was said or done about Tibetans self immolating themselves. One hundred over lives gone and vanished for nothing. Yet, HHDL and CTA did nothing to stop or prevent it from happening again and again. This is not about anti or pro anyone, this is about the Tibetans who are already suffering everywhere.

Now, Tibetans are rejected from seeking asylum in Switzerland. What is CTA doing to help salvage their relation with the Swiss government? And what about the helpless Tibetan woman who is ill and fate unknown? All the funds meant for helping Tibetans in exile, went where? Was anything done to help improve your life? Why do you think more Tibetans in exile are leaving India for other places?

So many questions to ask CTA to answer and give explanations. Tibetans need to speak up and fight for your rights before more countries refuse your asylum.

What CTA and What Lobsang Sangye want some-more? money? power?
Lobsang Sangye want money for him to build up CTA? Or Lobsang Sangye want Money/Power to against Dorje Shugden practitioner?

I always wish that Dorje Shugden ban release ASAP, i bet HHDL to release the ban of Dorje Shugden every single day.

This incident should open up more the eyes of the Tibetans that they are stateless people and it would be better for them to apply to be Indian nationals. India has been a compassionate host to the Tibetans for nearly 60 years and Tibetans living in India should feel proud to be accepted as Indian nationals. With a legit nationality the Tibetans stand to gain so much than their current status, which is nothing. Tibetans should not listen and live in fear that the CTA may brand them as traitors. In fact, Tibetans should ask Lobsang Sangye and his cronies in the CTA what have the CTA done to benefit them, which is almost nothing compared to the billions of dollars the CTA received that was meant to improve the living conditions of the Tibetans.

The CTA like to brand others who do not agree with their policies, with names like Chinese spy, China sympathisers, traitors; and the CTA always point their fingers at others but never at themselves even though it is clearly their fault. Let us see how long the CTA can put up with the charade now that Switzerland has legally acted within the laws of their country. And as always, the people suffer, as in the unjust treatment meted out to Tibetans living in India who wish to continue with their spiritual practice of Dorje Shugden

It is obviously CTA only eyeing on material needs for the support of his own organization. The reason is because they are the LEADER of the Tibetan and by using the word “Tibetan in exile” is seek sympathy from other countries for fund. In other word, CTA would willingly to create beautiful stories to get attention and fund from their “savior” since they are extremely good in breaking promises. I won’t be surprised they will re-use old tactics of promoting HHDL’s name again.

I think is a good point Switzerland refuse Tibetan refugees for the good caused. Tibetan is so much fortunate that they gain asylum from many countries due to hard work and respect to HHDL. CTA IGNORANCE of aiding them to better life caused much hatred and confusion of their living status. This is another big slap to CTA to take back their RESPONSIBILITIES.

What I can say about CTA is that they hopeless and heartless. How come everytime when something happens they are not there to support their Tibetan people? Why they even say whatever they do is for the benefit of their people. It really make no sense at all. If the CTA really care for their people, then step up and do something. Save the Tibetans before more and more self immolate themselves or more people will be landed in jail in the foreign country because they do not have proper travel document. From this article, it is very obvious to others from all around the world to notice that the CTA if you have problem it is your fault and your problem not CTA’s problem. If you die or if you are landed in jail is also your problem not the CTA’s problem. The Tibetans really wake up and realize this point.

China has changed dramatically over the past 50 years. China has become the most influence country in the world economic and nobody wants an economic fight with China these days. Compare with CTA, what was CTA has been done for the past 50 years for the peoples and Tibet. Most of the Tibetan in India and others country as a refugee still suffering after 50 years.

Switzerland’s decision in this article is just another wake up call to the CTA, they can’t denied that more and more countries has accepted that Tibet is part of China. CTA don’t event as a country government and yet still anti-China and neglect the suffering of Tibetan. Why don’t find way to talk to China and fight more benefits for their peoples. It doesn’t make sense that for the Switzerlan’s issue, CTA still do not do anything for their people. Would you choose this kind of leadership to lead your peoples?

Tibetan refugee should open up and no more depand on inefficiency and reductant of CTA. What CTA is just use their refugee as the tool to get sympethy and get fund for the political reason and for for their own people wellfair to fright for freedom of tibet. Rejection 300 application from Switzerland application in not cause by China but CTA always push the blame and responbility to China. Perhap tibetan refugee shold question CTA why they can’t help their people and stop be stateless stay in foreign country. Over 60 of cheating and brain wash by CTA , bring them more suffering for future generation.

Switzerland has their own right whether to receive or don’t receive Tibetan refugees. Plus, I commented before in the previous post, to many countries, to many of us, Tibetan belongs to China all the while. So, go back to your country! Don’t hoping for any empty hope and depending on this useless so called “government” anymore! CTA will not care if any Tibetan burn yourself to fight for the empty independent cause, CTA will not care if you are imprison in other country because of fake passport, CTA will not care whether or not Tibetan will get Indian passport or go back China, CTA will only care whether there is money coming in to their pocket or not! Lobsang Sangay is useless! Switzerland is doing the right thing this time. Whether Switzerland want to befriend China or not, that doesn’t matter. But this really give a big slap on Tibetan and CTA face. The biggest slap is on Lobsang Sangay’s face. If you Tibetan still don’t wake up and still depending on this useless “government” that keep giving empty promises and hopes, then good luck Tibetan in exile. Tibetan in Tibet are already running, and you all in India are still crawling!

At the first place, we got to think of why so many Tibetans applying to stay in Switzerland? Why they chose to leave their own leaderships which is CTA, travelled all the way to Switzerland, using all kinds of illegal ways they could to get their documents so that they can get out??

Why a country such as Switzerland being so generous and kind of Tibetan refugees for the last 60 years still want to continue to take are of Tibetan refugees by releasing CTA has taken billions donations but do nothing for their own people? Well, and now India and China have openly accepting the Tibetans to apply their citizenship? That also mean you already have 2 homes to go. Life is better in Switzerland of course, but look, Switzerland has being doing this for the last 60 years out of courtesy, isn’t that enough?

It is time for the Tibetans to stop judging the whole world through the lens of what is pro- or anti-China. It’s your own leaderships’ bad reputation that destroy your own people’s future. It’s CTA that plotted everything so that Tibetans stays in this difficult condition. So that you all continue to self-immolate. Why? So that millions of dollars will just dropped from the sky! Where is this money gone to? The CTA pockets! They are having good life, flying first class to beg for money. The world had helped but unfortunately, the fortune didn’t reach the welfare of the Tibetans who are still in very poor condition? Tibetans will remain poor and will continue to blame others as pro-China. Why? This is what CTA’s strategised, this is their business plan to generate their own income.

No other reason that will make a citizen of a country choose to leave his or her homeland…except it’s necessary.. for Tibetan..it has to be CTA, the “LEADERS” who make so much efforts to get donations all around the world, fighting to fill their pockets.. horrible..and sad for their people.

When Switzerland decided not to continue with the refugees support towards Tibetans in exile, it is a decision made by the governing body of Switzerland, according to the time and affair. As time has come to recognize that Tibetan in exile in actuality can have a nationality which they have access to. This a straight forward decision, and let’s hope CTA and Dharamsala can relate this to how the Tibetan Cause is becoming obsolete and irrelevant.

One way for CTA and Dharamsala to extend their control could be to turn the table around, instead of fighting China and lose completely, they should try to negotiate their way back into maistream Tibet, so that the Tibetans can be reunited. Hopefully with this solution that give victory to China, CTA can smartly negotiate for positions in the governance of Tibet and therefore continue to benefit financially too.

  26. SabrinaS

    September 8, 2017 at 2:11 pm

It is really sad the situation that CTA had created for their people. With so much monies received in donations/sponsorships, running into the billions, CTA could have done so much for their people’s welfare that they do not need to run around looking for citizenships to countries of their choices. They could have developed skills that countries favour for granting citizenships. So where had the billions in dollars gone to instead? CTA claim democracy and yet why aren’t the national accounts being audited especially when it involves the generosity of others for close to 60 years. Transparency should be the practice, should it?

I do agree that Switzerland has their own rights to invite or reject who they want in their own country. Taking the stance of Tibetans being Chinese is not exclusive to the Swiss government but to many first world countries. With China’s wealth and influence, who in the world would not want to form alliance with them? What has CTA offer other than some feel good photo session with their trump card, the 14th Dalai Lama? For that feel good session, CTA will tax them for more handouts. Why are CTA blaming the Swiss government for practicing their rights? Oh yes! CTA has a tradition of that, don’t they? Look how CTA blames Dorje Shugden and his practitioners for their own failure to deliver their promise of return to Tibet. Look how CTA blames China for everything that fails due to their self serving policies and shortsighted decisions.

Tibetans-in-exile would do better to wake up to the antics of their Government that left them in terrible predicaments, like Yangdon who’s desperation got her in deep trouble or the self-immolators who’s desperations are so apparent. How much longer will the Tibetans allow CTA to continue in their harmful ways? On the spiritual level, how much longer will the people allow CTA to degenerate Tibetan Buddhism, so precious and held sacred in its purity of practice. How much longer will the people allow their national treasure of attained Masters/Lamas to suffer the abuses, discriminations and threats by CTA’s ignorant policies? See how CTA abuses the Dalai Lama as a pawn in their quests for garner more donations/sponsorship and yet go against His Holiness’ wish for autonomy or middle way approach in negotiations with China. Instead of stopping tirade of accusations against China, CTA should start appealing to China for negotiations. CTA is still very much backing the Rangzen as proving with Ministerial staff attending the meeting in France ever so openly.

Will all Tibetans wake up to CTA’s failures that jeopardised their return to Tibet or their attainments of citizenships under forced status of refugees?

We love Tibet and we want her free. But the Tibetan government in exile is segregating our people due to religion. Hello everyone, specially to our CTA Taxi union president Lobsang Sangay and his beneficiary Kashag members and followers,
I am Chokyi I worked in Exile government 15 years. When Lobsang Sangay came to Dharamsala leadership I researched 2 years through what I have seen and what I listened from him personally. Lobsang Sangay have no personal skill and capability to solve the issues of Tibetans in India. He have only a paper degree from Harvard that’s called R….R….R, which means big talk in Tibetan. I feel so much pity on those uneducated Tibetans who set themselves on fire and burned their bodies. Each self-immolation brought a huge benefit to CTA financially. After every self-immolation Lobsang Sangay and his Kashag members have tour programs under the name of Tibetan political issues to introduce to western countries. Mostly, they travel first/business class. But, once they reached destination Lobsang Sangay asked donations to CTA. This is Sangay’s no 1 capability to ask donors in the name of self- immolation. So, I have known much better what Sangay real doing. That’s why I resigned from my post and living independently in US now. Here I humble request to all ordinary Tibetan people in exile. Plz go to apply for western or Indian citizenship as soon as possible. This is only way how you and your children survive a better life. Don’t listen CTA leaders big talks. Becoz, when you don’t have money to pay your children’s school fees. CTA can’t help you. When your father got serious sickness CTA can’t help you. When your mother died CTA can’t help you. But, CTA will use you for donations in name of seeking help for Tibetans. That donations they will corrupt at the end. Therefore, do something for yourself. Don’t let others use you. This is real experience that I got from CTA in 15 years working from down to earth. Don’t waste your life in CTA’s misuses.

Very sad the only REAL leader the Tibetans produced in the last 60 years is Dalai Lama. Dalai Lama is 82 and how many more years can he ‘lead’ his people in exile and never getting his country back??!

Dalai Lama’s policy for Tibet in making friends with western powers and criticizing China is not working out. How do we know?! It has been 60 years since Tibetans have been refugees and they still remain ‘refugees’ depending on handouts and free aid and free money. Pathetic.

Losang Sangye is a big degree holder and his degree is not worth the paper it’s printed on. He can do nothing and has done nothing except become ‘close’ friend with Sharling Dhardon. Their ‘closeness’ is the talk of all Dharamsala.

Losang Sangye and any ‘leader’ will not have real power but simply the puppets of the all powerful god king Dalai Lama who is the real power behind the throne.

If it was not for Buddhism, no one would listen to the Dalai Lama!! The Dalai Lama gives the Kalacakra, gives self help speeches, sermons, prayers, rituals and wears the maroon dress to vast crowds. The maroon dress he wears is really a good marketing method although it is not meant to be. All these Buddhist events is what gathers the crowd to Dalai Lama. If you look at the Dalai Lama himself, besides being a smiley, shrewd and intelligent person, what does he have to attract people? Removing all from him that is Buddhist, what does the Dalai Lama have that is different than any other groups or deposed leaders that the world does not listen to. Dalai Lama owes all this to Buddhism. Therefore he should make harmony within the Buddhist community. How he is segregating certain sects with his rhetoric is dangerous. He is expelling people here clearly due to only a difference in religion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTgYWidYw3U&t=6s I was personally shocked to see this. I have met some Tibetan government leaders in Tokyo and privately they told me, they were also shocked that the Dalai Lama would say this and none of them dare advise him otherwise. They felt after Dalai Lama’s expulsion of people and in such a angry manner, it will not bode well in the future within Tibetan Buddhism which is the basis of his power. You can see in the video how angry the Dalai Lama seems to be. The Tibetan government persons in Japan also mentioned that the Dalai Lama listened to his oracle Nechung’s advice to ban this sect within Buddhism. Dalai Lama relies heavily on this Nechung god taking trance (oracle) for all his moves. Nechung is even summoned in the Dalai Lama’s private quarters to give prophecies:- http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x62ocw1

It bewilders his followers why Dalai Lama relies so heavily on Nechung when he is suppose to be an avatar of a god Avalokita himself. Nechung is invited to most of his public events to do his dance and prophecies. Many Tibetans such as MP Tenpa Yarphel are not happy and speaking up finally: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIP-vLuTnpw and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dB_ISn6eY0Y&t=1688s . The over-reliance on Nechung demeans the Dalai Lama they feel and makes their government backwards. No modern governments consult gods and oracles for every move and if they do, they should not show this publicly. This is not a case of transparency but the Dalai Lama has not trained good advisers skilled in world politics by his side obviously to advise him and uses a god instead. Till now Nechung after 60 years has not proven correct. Nechung has not secured Tibet back. It was in fact in 2012 that Nechung told his monk Dorje Dalai Lama will go back to Tibet very soon, but it has not happened. Dorje is so ecstatic of this Nechung prophecy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIDZLzXIgW8 . The prophecy proved to be wrong again by Nechung unfortunately for Dorje and the rest of the hopefuls.

Losang Sangay is too busy with Sharling Dhardon and this is well known among the Tibetans. Without the Dalai Lama backing him up or promoting him, he is nothing and no one will listen to him. That is why everyone in the ‘Tibetan government’ are careful not to offend or displease the Dalai Lama who is the real power behind the throne. If you displease the king, you will be removed from the limelight and that means no more access to money, perks and foreigners who will give you money. Losang Sangay has made zero progress with talks with China since he ‘took office’. Whatever office that is. This shows his priority is not the Tibetans inside and outside of Tibet but to fill his own pockets before the King passes. Basically milk the cow while he can. Sad but that is the situation.

I posted this ‘pictograph’ here of Sharling and Lobsang floating on the internet when you google. Interesting. I guess the Tibetans are not happy with Lobsang Sangay and Sharling who is really outspoken to her own detriment!

Member of Parliament Tenpa Yarphel is a hero. He is speaking up for free speech and freedom of expression. He is exercising his rights, he is standing up for logical democracy which is the only way forward and not having to contact spirits like Nechung via oracles to make decisions that impact people’s lives. But look how people speak about him in the comments, so rude and nasty. It really represents the Dalai Lama badly as they are supporting Dalai Lama beings so rude: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=if2dFMKIr_8

They say we need to believe in Nechung and follow what he says. But in 2009 Nechung said the Dalai Lama would go back to Tibet and that everyone would be happy. A monk from Nechung Monastery is the one that told everyone about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIDZLzXIgW8. But Nechung was wrong. It has been eight years and this has not happened. The Dalai Lama did not return to Tibet. Nechung being consulted by Tibetan government in exile is backwards. No governments do this in the civilized world.

When people like Tenpa Yarphel speak up and are real patriots of the Tibetan people, they are attacked by other people. In fact people even protest like this man who shaves his hair: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M30NL4hG8oA. People like these are actually protesting against Tenpa Yarphel’s democratic rights and freedom of speech. Tibetans by criticizing Tenpa Yarphel shows they are far from democracy. Besides many of the other Kagyu leaders such as Drigung Chetsang Rinpoche, Drukchen Rinpoche, Karmapa Thaye Dorje all did not say anything against Tenpa Yarphel that represents the Kagyus.

Dalai Lama had said that is his minister of cabinet in the government. Even though it is clear that Nechung is unreliable and a spirit, the Dalai Lama continues to rely heavily on Nechung and other oracles who take trance of spirits. He invites Nechung to all his events and allow him to take trance in centre stage always. In fact the Dalai Lama even calls the oracles to his own private bedroom: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x62ocw1.

These practices show how Tibetan government is run.

The Dalai Lama is so old and he can pass anytime. Beijing is waiting for that. Beijing has full control of Tibet and nothing to fear. Dalai Lama and his government negotiates with Beijing or not does not matter. It’s a small matter in fact. Tibet will never have another King so powerful like Dalai Lama and so influential.

Actually if Lobsang Sangye was smart, he would do his best to negotiate with China for a better deal for autonomy for Tibet while Dalai Lama is alive. With Dalai Lama alive, he will have more weight and backing. So why doesn’t Lobsang Sangye do so? The reason why Lobsang Sangye does not work hard to negotiate with China is because he does not care about the people. If the Dalai Lama dies, he is rich with big houses and he just moves on. He is in his position for the perks and wealth and US Passport which he has now. So why should he worry?

Together they can authorized the spending of thousands of US dollars for commissioning a book against Dorje Shugden to further isolate and segregate the Tibetans who continue with their faith in Dorje Shugden. They do this to please the Dalai Lama so their money-making posts will be secure. They only want money.

Read the comment attached from Youtube video, you can see how ungrateful, greedy and nasty Tibetans are. The Indians are angry and have a right to be angry after hosting the Tibetans for 60 years. Yet instead of being grateful, they lash back. Even calling the Indian students “COMMUNIST CHINA PAID DOGS” and other vulgarities. Very racist. Anything Tibetans don’t like, they call you a China spy or China money eating agent. Even the Indian nationals now are berated as China dogs. No wonder Indians are protesting for Tibetans to go back! This is happening while the Dalai Lama is alive for after he passes, it will completely degenerate and the Indians will take action and expel the ungrateful refugees.

    October 12, 2017 at 9:58 am

Tibetans use India and it is true that the Tibetans don’t respect India. They are also very racist. Indians are tired of this and want them out. Now big protests in the hundreds are happening in Arunachal Pradesh state of India demanding Tibetans go back to Tibet. The people there are tired of the Tibetans and do not welcome them anymore. After 60 years, why are the Tibetans still refugees? If they can go western country, they will go because India is NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE USERS. They put India down by doing this. They only stay in India if they cannot go to another country. They never get Indian citizenship because they want foreign citizenship. Shame. In India, they never pay taxes. They never join army to defend India. They never build hospitals, half way houses, orphanages or get money from foreign aid to help India. They never build anything for Indians and we have so many poor Indians in India. Look at the foreigner Mother Teresa how much she did for India and she did so much for Indians in Calcutta but Tibetans do nothing. Not a charitable race. Their Dalai Lama never set up orphanages, schools, soup kitchens for the poor or set up scholarship for Indians. He lived in India for 60 years and give nothing back but take and use Indian land. The Tibetans lived in India for 60 years but they contribute nothing to India. Only complain and Indians are now going to speak up. The SUMAA students said the protests against Tibetans are only beginning and there will be more.

After 60 years how can they still be refugees. They are not genuine refugees. They call themselves refugees and not get Indian passport so their Tibetan ‘government’ in Dharamsala can continue to market them to western countries and Japan to give them money. To get free money. Tibetan leaders love free money. Tibetans have big houses, nice cars and can travel to other countries. The Dalai Lama temples in Dharamsala have gold idols and gold paintings and live in very high luxury. Tibetan leaders already get money in the US billions in aid and yet they never improve. The Tibetans always say they have no opportunities in India. Why they say that? Because they are saying they are too good for India.

They say they want autonomy with China but they fly the Tibetan flag on Indian soil. If they want autonomy, they should fly the Chinese flag and show China government they are serious to sit and talk. They are always lying. They protest against China on Indian soil making problems between India and China. India is not responsible for Tibetans. Tibetans should not make China India’s enemy. Don’t be selfish. China is not India’s problem. Tibetans should solve the problems themselves.

Tibetan leaders only want money, money and more free things. They always make segregation among their people due to regional differences and religion. Look how they supress the Dorje Shugden religion and their own Dorje Shugden Tibetans cannot join in their schools or Dalai Lama’s talks and ceremonies. They treat the Dorje Shugden people like the low castes in India. Their Tibetan people cannot stand up on their own become something because their leaders want everything for free. When they go to western countries, they lose their culture, religion and language and pay a heavy price. Their children become more like the adopted country’s culture and people. Their ‘government’ in Dharamsala block them from getting Indian citizenship so they can continue using their fake refugee status to get money from the west. When India is so generous to give them citizenship, their own Tibetan minister in Dharamsala block this.

Now Indians had enough and want Tibetans to get out and go home!

Within the Tibetan communities in India, there is no free speech and how Tibetans insult each other and would even insult foreigners by calling them Chinese agents just because you speak up and this is suppose to silence you. All of this began with the Tibetan CTA. Nonetheless, there are a handful of Tibetans who had enough and they dare to speak the truth and in this case, Tenpa Yarphel speaks against Nechung and veiled statements about the Shugden ban – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuKOjcpLH8A

Let’s face it… there is NO REAL FREEDOM of SPEECH for us Tibetans living under the ruling of the CTA and Dalai Lama. The Tibetan communities in India all sufer this fate and we live in lies and deception of a FAKE DEMOCRACY.

Just watch how Tibetans insult and backstab each other and would even dare insult people they do not know, calling them Chinese dogs/Chinese spies is the only thing they can say and the label they give you the moment you dare to speak up. This is done to shut you up and to indicate to other Tibetans to attack you because they make you sound like you are a traitor and this is how they get all to turn against you. This is how the Tibetan CTA deals with people they feel threatened. All because of power and position.

However, there are a few brave Tibetans who basically had enough of their deception and begin to speak up, to tell the truth. A good example is Tenpa Yarphel who bravely stood up and talked about Nechung and the inconsistency and FAILED prophesies… also the ridiculous heavy reliance on him for everything. Where on earth do you ever see any government relying on “mystical Gods” to help them make state decisions? Even if they did, they would not dare tell anyone because this is 2017 not the medieval times. Just watch – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuKOjcpLH8A

Then you have the small-minded, sheep like followers, shaving their hair – like WOW big deal, to protest against Tenpa Yarphel. Lololol

So why on earth are we still listening to this spirit Nechung who always makes mistakes and give wrong prophecies? Nechung even killed the 13th Dalai Lama by giving him the wrong medicine. Lobsang Sangay at Golden Jubilee Celebration of Tibetan Settlement Office, Dharamsala: https://youtu.be/eInTi-E9na8

Losang Sangay said recently (October, 2017) in Dharamsala that Tibetans have two enemies: the outer and inner enemy. The outer enemies are the Chinese government and Dorje Shugden people. The inner enemy is the people who speak against about our Tibetan affairs like regional differences and religious differences. (He didn’t say this directly but he means people like Tenpa Yarphel who spoke up in the Parliament) He said out of the two enemies, the worse one is inner enemy.

Now the Tibetans have started a new Facebook page specifically against Tenpa Yarphel. Tibetans are protesting against him: http://bit.ly/2ysowTH

His Holiness the Dalai Lama is a a dedicated advocate for the principles of democracy. In September 2017, Tibetans in India celebrates the 57th anniversary of the establishment of the democratic path in the running of the Tibetan people’s political system. Sadly, it’s all lip service.

Look at the recent incident of MP Tenpa Yarphel speaking up. Tenpa Yarphel has the right to speak and express his opinion, especially because he is a representative of the people, a Member of Parliament. He was criticised for issueing irresponsible statements, watch this video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuKOjcpLH8A

What is absurd is that there are even people protesting against his opinion, and shaving their hair in protest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M30NL4hG8oA

Tenpa Yarphel was accused of being sectarian, but the reality is that because of Nechung’s advice, Dorje Shugden practitioners were segregated, discriminated and ostracised from the Tibetan community in general all around the world. I think this MP is sick of seeing the separation and found the courage to speak up for the unity of the Tibetan people in exile. I think there are many who think the same.

What is the CTA for a club? Going around pretending to be a democracy but only because of HH Dalai Lama they can make some foreign people believe it but it seems that karma is coming back.

The CTA is suppressing their own people and having a good life with the money originally meant for the Tibetan people. On top, their elections are a farce!

Listen here to Tenpa Yarphel who questions about the reliance of the Tibetan Government to Nechung, an oracle, which is understandable already but on top Nechung’s predictions seem to create more problems than anything else. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuKOjcpLH8A

Unfortunately, the dream of Tibetan democracy is nothing but that. Look at this brave Tenpa Yarphel speaking up against the spirit Nechung (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuKOjcpLH8A). He brings up a good point, the Tibetans rely more on a spirit than they do on democratic principles and their own intelligence and care for their own people.

But these Tibetans themselves are so enamored with the spirit that they protest against Tenpa Yarphel, lame protests, but protests nonetheless, like this man who cut off his hair (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M30NL4hG8oA). I really don’t understand how this is a protest, but each to their own I guess.

Personally, I don’t really think much of the Tibetans who follow their lame government. I’ve seen first-hand just how much the average Tibetan suffers under their current leadership and this just goes to show that their government is ineffective and schismatic. But one thing about this whole situation is somewhat promising, there is a silver lining, and that is the point was raised by a Tibetan MP within their parliament. He wouldn’t have done so if other people in the Tibetan community did not feel the same way. It is time for Tibetan to free themselves of a superstitious, money-grabbing, self-serving, and impotent government.

What he said is true. I couldn’t believe it at first, because I never heard my parents or relatives tell much such things before. But when I asked my uncle who is a monk, he told me it is true. He said that Nechung gave bad advice and has continued to give bad advice. My uncle said that even many of the monks and high lamas don’t even believe in anything Nechung says. Better to say no rather than listening to his advice from now on. My parents were shocked. They used to go and see Nechung oracle when they were in India, but luckily I was able to move them to the USA. Now we better off. I can’t believe that the government still listen to the Nechung.

It’s quite refreshing to have someone from the parliament speaking up and raising questions about the unjustness that’s been happening within its own “government”. Tenpa Yarphel is extremely brave to speak up like that, Tibetans HAVE TO WATCH IT! 👍

MP Tenpa Yarphel is very brave to questioned the validity and accuracy of the spirit Nechung who the Dalai Lama always consulted, apparently Nechung has been giving highly inaccurate prophecies, but people still keep using him because Dalai Lama keeps using him and nobody dare to say otherwise, although Nechung is full of mistake, no wonder Tibetans did not get back their country even after 60 years: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuKOjcpLH8A

Look at what is happening in Dharamsala, thanks to Sikyong!

Dharamshala Tibetan Settlement Officer appeals for peace
    By Lobsang Wangyal
McLEOD GANJ, India, 14 November 2017

Sensing the momentum gathering around a mass demonstration in Dharamshala against Kashag’s continuous silence over its decision to sack Penpa Tsering as the representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in North America, the Tibetan Settlement Officer in Dharamshala has issued an appeal to the people to maintain peace and harmony.

Calls for a demonstration were made after the Kashag (Cabinet of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) ) refused to divulge details of the reason for expelling Representative Penpa Tsering.

Kashag issued an announcement about the termination of Penpa Tsering’s duties through their website on 7 November, stating that he will end his duty on 30 November, and the current CTA Education Minister Ngodup Tsering will replace him.

The Kashag stated “dereliction of duty” as the reason, and said that three warnings had been served, but that Penpa Tsering didn’t show any improvement in his conduct.

The actual nature of the warnings was also not clear when the officiating President of the CTA convened a press conference on 9 November.

Penpa Tsering on the other hand denied any wrongdoing.

Settlement Officer Dawa Rinchen said in his appeal message that since Dharamshala being the seat of the Dalai Lama and of the Central Tibetan Administration, he urged people to respect the sanctity of the place.

Speaking to Tibet Sun, Rinchen said that he envisaged a demonstration on the 27th of this month, but couldn’t have any estimate of its size.

The 27th came to be the date for demonstration after an activist in NYC suggested it through his article published on Tibet Sun.

He said, ”There’s so much talk and discussion about the issue and preparations for the protest. Many people are seen registering and others giving donations towards this event.”

President of CTA Lobsang Sangay, who is on a European tour, spoke on 13 November about the issue in Norway, but he also refused to give details as to why Penpa Tsering was suspended.

He said that it is the prerogative of the Kashag to appoint and terminate representatives and staff members of CTA. Kashag is not required to explain the reasons for their termination.

Some Tibetans in the United States are saying they would stop paying the annual tax to CTA (record maintained through the “Green Book”), and people in New York are calling for a boycott of an event in New York on 10 December, the Tibetan Rally for Peace and Non-violence, which is to be attended by CTA President Lobsang Sangay and Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile Khenpo Sonam Tenphel. It is to be held at United Nations Plaza, led by North American Chithues and is organised by North American Tibetan Associations.

However, Penpa Tsering has appealed in a video message to people in New York City and nearby areas to attend the event.

Tibetan unity in peril: Call for massive street protest in Dharamshala
    By Mila Rangzen
NEW YORK CITY, US, 11 November 2017

Like most Tibetans, including those who voted for Sikyong Lobsang Sangay in the 2016 election, I am shocked by what Sikyong Lobsang Sangay did to former speaker Penpa Tsering — the Dalai Lama’s Chief Representative posted in Washington DC. He fired Penpa Tsering a few days ago for no reason other than political revenge.

Penpa Tsering was Lobsang Sangay’s opponent in the 2016 Sikyong election, and a tough one at that. Penpa Tsering is the only Tibetan statesman who can stand up to Lobsang Sangay and speak the truth to his face for the good of our cause and our community as a whole.

Stand up he did, in and outside the Parliament. With humility but firmly. Roughly twenty-eight thousand Tibetans in our small exile community voted for him.

Recognizing Penpa Tsering’s capability, experience, and integrity, the Dalai Lama’s private office recommended Penpa Tsering as the right man for the Representative job. Sikyong had no choice but to relent. Also, to appear to be burying the election grudge and the regional hatchet, that was the best bet he had. No need to point out that Lobsang Sangay is a Khampa man and Penpa Tsering is an Amdo/U-Tsang man. Track the source of the conflict. It will help the reader understand the Tibetan domestic politics. To turn a blind eye because it makes you feel uncomfortable is, in fact, an endorsement for negative regionalism to continue.

When the media asked for elaboration on why Sikyong fired him, the response from him and his subordinates was shocking. Sikyong, laughing sarcastically, avoided the question by telling the media to talk to the Cabinet Secretary. The secretary simply said Sikyong fired him because it is in his power to do so according to the exile charter. No specific reason was given.

The Deputy Sikyong Youthok Karma Gelek responded, at an only 10-minute-long press conference, by saying that Sikyong had served three warning notices to Penpa Tsering to mend his ways in the past one year and that he was not respecting Sikyong. When pressed for what precisely wrong did Penpa Tsering do, Youthok became overbearing and left.

    CTA, where is the transparency?

The Dalai Lama publicly rebuked both the candidates in Dharamshala in April 2016 for stirring regional tensions among the Tibetan community during the election. Both the candidates publicly apologized. And so, we believed the matter got settled there and then. Sangay even delivered tons of speeches on the importance of Tibetan unity.

But to our dismay, Lobsang Sangay proved us wrong. The man is still in the election campaign mode despite being in office again for almost two years. This firing on unfounded grounds is an attempt to tarnish the image and reputation of Penpa Tsering. How vindictive can Sikyong get? This is absolutely unacceptable, and it also goes against the very teaching of the Dalai Lama.

Penpa Tsering said on Voice of America that he was served only one warning notice, and that too without any explanation. Sikyong also denied Penpa Tsering his right to explain his position. Sangay revealed his actual colours. Also, the removal of Penpa Tsering from the office is a slap in Dalai Lama’s face, and a kick to the rear of the twenty-eight thousand Amdos and U-Tsangs who voted for him.

    What can we do now?
When we think an issue is this important, we are left with no choice but a massive protest. Protesting can help raise public awareness and prevent a cheap political vendetta that can ruin the Tibetan unity thus far achieved.

I call for the Tibetans to come out in thousands at Gangkyi on 27 November 2017 at 10 am sharp, and do the following.

Picket by holding up large signs at the Cabinet building and demand detailed explanation for the firing of Penpa Tsering. Gather first at McLeod Ganj and march to Gangkyi, demanding the reinstatement of Penpa Tsering to the office. Hold a vigil at night in memory of Penpa Tsering’s dedication and service to our community. Do sit-ins at the Cabinet building lobby until the demand is met. Resist threats and violence with resolute non-violent action. Be the peace warriors!

Organise a core group of U-Tsang Association and Amdo Association if the Cholsum Association fails to do so. Assign roles to members pertaining to media coverage, permits, equipment, safety, transport, signs, and placards.

Gather as many people as you can to help out on the day. Remember to contact them the night before to remind them about the protest. Put the word out through emails, posters and flyers, local media, social media, word of mouth, and any other way you can.

Organise speakers for they can inspire and educate the Tibetan public, but keep the speeches short and powerful.

Thunder into the streets! Pound sense into the head of Sikyong! Lead by example, not by ego!

See what a mess Lobsang Sangay did in Dharamsala now…

Growing public anger as Kashag reluctant to give clear statement on NA Rep. row
    [Thursday, November 16, 2017 21:19]
    By Tenzin Dharpo

DHARAMSHALA, Nov. 16: Following the announcement to relieve North America CTA mission representative and former Speaker Penpa Tsering from his position on Nov. 7, there has been a general sense of dissatisfaction among sections of the community with some even suggesting protests and boycott of events where President Sangay is scheduled to attend.

While the Kashag asserts that the issue was handled as per the binding rules and with rightful authority, the handling of the situation, many say, has rolled back on President Sangay’s campaign claims of transparency and unity. An official announcement and a press briefing by Kashag have not mentioned a clear reason for Penpa’s ousting other than vague reference to dereliction in his role there and hints at insubordination.

Officiating President Ven. Karma Gelek Yuthok told the media last week that the Kashag need not give a clarification over the transfer or firing of any staff and that the issue is an “internal matter”.

The growing impasse between the public and Kashag’s (cabinet) reluctance to give a clear explanation over the cause of Penpa’s ousting has escalated over the last week. A New York based individual going by the name of Mila Rangzen has called for a non-violent mass protest at the end of the month here in Dharamshala, prompting the settlement officer here to issue a public appeal, urging peace and order in the community.

Dharamshala settlement officer Dawa Rinchen told Phayul, “While I have no knowledge of when and how many people are going to hold a protest, my prerogative is to avoid any incidents here in Dharamshala where His Holiness the Dalai Lama resides where the CTA is based and subsequently where the eyes of the international community is transfixed on. Hence I appealed the public to maintain peace here.”

Sporadic posts and videos on social media sites such as Facebook and WeChat expressed dissatisfaction over the handling of the situation calling for a transparent approach to the matter by President Sangay led Kashag. A Tibetan nitezen Tsering Chomphel wrote on Facebook, “I personally think transparency is the first rung of so called democracy ladder. In today’s world, we cannot and should not trust any individual or group blindly. If PT is innocent this time, he needs to speak out. It’s not about PT or Kashag. It’s about peoples trust. People will surely lose trust and interest in our politics if things are not made clear this time.”

Tsering Samdup, a Tibetan sweater seller, said that it would be inappropriate if the Kashag issues a clarification simply because some section of the community demands it. “The concerned individual here is Penpa Tsering and if he denies Kashag’s decision and seeks clarification then Kashag might be obliged to give one. Otherwise, there is no need to clarify.”

Another nitezen opined that three advisory letter/directives were enough caution by the Kashag. Tenzin Kunkyab wrote, “He got fired after three written warning (three yellow cards) after that they pulled red card, I don’t see any wrong with that unless PT himself have some explanation.” Penpa Tsering however claimed he only received one letter prior to his termination letter and has maintained he is not at fault.

Some people have even called for more dramatic action to boycott the ‘Solidarity with Tibet rally for peace and non-violence’ on 10th December in New York where President Sangay is scheduled to attend. Penpa Tsering, the outgoing representative urged Tibetans in North America to participate in the event with the broader sense of the Tibetan issue at mind and not divisive politics.

Meanwhile the Tibetan President who is currently on an official visit to northern Europe indicated that the Kashag might not budge and give a clear-cut answer on the issue. He said that Penpa Tsering has accepted the Kashag’s decision to remove him from the Washington office and his cabinet’s decision to remove and appoint liaison officers abruptly, is neither unprecedented nor illegal.

The NA office remains the most crucial position in the hierarchy of outposts of the Tibetan polity. The new man in that seat, Education minister Ngodup Tsering today said he has gotten the blessing of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for his new role in Washington.

Citing Fatigue, Dalai Lama Appoints Personal Emissaries

    November 16, 2017 12:29 PM
    Yeshi Dorje

    WASHINGTON —

The Dalai Lama says he has appointed emissaries to attend international engagements or speak on his behalf indefinitely.

Citing increasing physical fatigue, the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader made the comments while meeting with a group of international youth leaders brought to Dharmsala, India, by the Washington-based Institute of Peace.

“I’m 82 years old, and since last year [my] feeling of tiredness has been much increased,” he told the group during video-recorded meetings last week.

Because he may not be able to maintain a regular international travel schedule, he said, the president of Tibet’s current government-in-exile, Lobsang Sangay, along with prominent Buddhist scholar and former prime minister in exile, Samdong Rinpoche, would act as his official emissaries.

These “trusted friends, they know my thinking,” he said. “Our work, continuously, should be more active [and internationally engaged], so in these two persons,” he said, pointing to Lobsang and Samdong, “I have full trust.”

Looking to the dialogue moderator, USIP President Nancy Lindborg, the Dalai Lama said: “If your side … or your government’s side” has concerns, “then these two persons, either one, can participate as my representative or my personal emissary.”

Penpa Tsering, representative for the Office of Tibet in Washington, which represents the Tibetan government-in-exile, downplayed the significance of the Dalai Lama’s statement.

“I think this was more of a general statement,” he told VOA. “His holiness is sometimes too tired to travel, and his April visit to the United States has been suspended indefinitely, but he will continue to travel in India, and Europe is only a seven hour flight.”

Adding that Lobsang’s presidential term is limited to five years, and the fact that Samdong has long served as a kind of unofficial deputy to the Dalai Lama, he said the November 6 comments do not represent a major diversion or change in Dharmsala’s official representation on the world stage.

    Symbol of Tibet

However, Carole McGranahan, a University of Colorado anthropologist and historian of Tibet, says although prioritizing the Dalai Lama’s health requires a reduction in his international travel schedule, his physical absence from global engagements cannot be substituted via proxy.

“So much of the goodwill and attention Tibet receives in the world is due to his holiness, and specifically due to his personal interactions with world leaders and with the large audiences he draws around the world. His deep wisdom, his humor and charisma, his serious attention to pressing world issues, and, of course, his model of compassion and leadership, make a deep impression on people,” she told VOA’s Tibetan Service via email.

“For so much of the world, the Dalai Lama is the symbol of Tibet. Will his trusted emissaries be able to achieve the same effects? Of course not, as no one can truly stand in for the Dalai Lama,” she wrote. “They will be able to represent him, but no one can embody the message of Tibet as he does. His holiness’s stepping back from international travel will signal a new era of Tibetan diplomacy in the world.”

Robert Barnett, director of the Modern Tibet Studies Program at Columbia University, says the decision may be a signal to Beijing.

“Of course, there’s always the possibility that this move is intended as a post-19th Party Congress signal to Beijing of increased openness to a resumption of talks, or possibly even a response to a request from there,” he said. “It certainly should make Zhang Yijiong happier,” he added, referring to Communist Party’s Tibet working group chief, who told reporters on the sidelines of a party congress that there could be no excuses to meeting the Dalai Lama.

“Except that it seems unlikely that warhorses of that type can ever be appeased,” Barnett said.

In the United States, a California-based Tibetan monk named Tenzin Dhonden, who chairs the non-profit Friends of the Dalai Lama and was secretary of the Dalai Lama Trust, a charitable organization chaired by the Dalai Lama, has acted as a gatekeeper between the Dalai Lama and American philanthropists, scholars, celebrities and donors.

Late last month, Dhonden, who falsely named himself Personal Emissary of Peace for the Dalai Lama in 2005, was suspended from the trust over corruption allegations.

This story originated in VOA’s Tibetan Service. Pete Cobus contributed original reporting.

The Dalai Lama said that he cannot change his religion to enter into the Hindu temple. He wants to visit the Hindu temple, but he cannot change his religion. Only those of Hindu faith can enter this temple. He tried to enter by saying indirectly make an exception. But the Hindu priest said no. Even for the Dalai Lama, a big celebrity, the rules cannot be changed. It would have been nice if the priest did change the rules because the temple is to be visited by all and blessings are for everyone.

Similarly, Dorje Shugden people cannot change their religion so they cannot enter the Dalai Lama’s temple. So the situation is exactly the same. It would be nice if the Dalai Lama himself can change his rules too.

Dalai: Why Puri temple doors shut for non-Hindus?
    Minati Singha| TNN | Updated: Nov 22, 2017, 02:35 IST
BHUBANESWAR: Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, on Tuesday questioned the practice of not allowing non-Hindus inside the Puri Jagannath Temple premises while criticising the Christian missionaries for trying to convert people of other faiths.
“During my last visit to Odisha in 2010, I wished to go to the Jagannath Temple in Puri. I have a practice of visiting holy places wherever I go. I go to local places of worship like churches, gurdwaras, Hindu temples, Buddhist temples and mosques. I have made pilgrimages to Jerusalem (the holy city of the Jewish), the Syrian Christian Church and the Muslim sacred rock,” the Dalai Lama told TOI in an interview on Tuesday. He was responding to a question on the state’s unique Jagannath culture.
The Dalai Lama, who is here on a two-day visit, said he cannot change his religion to enter the Jagannath Temple. “When I wanted to enter the Jagannath Temple in Puri, they said only Hindus are allowed inside the temple. So, in order to make a pilgrimage to the Jagannath Temple, I have to become a Hindu, which is very difficult,” said the Nobel laureate.
The Dalai Lama also questioned conversions by Christian missionaries. “I never say Buddhism is the best religion. I never try to promote it in non-Buddhist countries and in Christian countries like Europe and America. I admire Christian brothers and sisters but don’t like it when they try to convert people. Being secular, like India, is a very practical and wonderful approach,” he said.
Reacting to the Dalai Lama’s comment, Jagannath Temple priests said not allowing non-Hindus inside t is an age-old tradition. “Non-Hindus have not been allowed into the temple for centuries and the rule cannot be changed,” said Ramkrushna Das Mohapatra, president of the Daita Pati Nijog (an association of priests).
